Abolisionists-A person who favors the abolition of a practice or institution, esp. capital
punishment or (formerly) slavery
Contraband- blacks who the union army helped to escape from the southern compounds
Infant- a very young child or baby
Measles- an acute, contagious viral disease
Muskrats- a large aquatic rodent
Sedative- a drug taken for its calming or sleep-inducing effect
Slave- people that are bought, sold, and forced to work
Underground Railroad- A secret network for helping slaves escape from the South to the North
