Escape from Slavery
Harriet Tubman wanted to escape from being a slave, for she did not want to her marriage to fall apart when her free husband stayed while she was being sold. So, she ran away with her two brothers. Her brothers were very scared and frightened so they turned back while Harriet kept going. She kept following the north star. When she made it to Philedelphia, she knew who were slaves and who had been free for a while. The slaves were very cautious of thier surroundings. One little sound and they would make a sudden move. While she was there, she got a job and saved her money to help free slaves. She went back to the south to bring her brothers and some friends. This time Harriet knew all the safe houses and who to trust. But the trip was still slow. After a few years Harriet became a "conductor" of the Underground Railroad. That meant that she knew all the possible ways and safe houses along the Underground Railroad to freedom in the north.
