Family and Marriage
Harriet Tubman, born as Araminta Ross, had twelve family members. Her mother, her father and her ten brothers and sisters. When she became a young adult, Harriet Tubman married John Tubman. When Harriet wanted to become free and move north with John, he threatened her and told that if she ran away he would tell her master. After a while when Harriet was free and she had brought more than seventy slaves to freedom, she came back for John. But when she entered the room where John was, she found John with another woman. Harriet was crushed, so she went back to bring more slaves to freedom. When Harriet was very old, she married a man who was about twenty years younger than her. It was told that she married him because he was injured and sick serving in the army during the civil war. When he died, Harriet was very old and she recieved about twenty dollars a month for his service.
